For my cousin Fran’s bachelorette party in Orlando, we started our evening off with dinner at Hamburger Mary’s. Even though
there are locations here in Tampa and Clearwater, I’d never had the chance to
try it before. (Actually one time I went to the Tampa location once and
it had a 2 hour wait since it’s so popular! So I had to eat elsewhere…)
The restaurant started in 1972 in San
Francisco & grew from there. They have all sorts of foods, but
specialize in crazy hamburger concoctions (for instance, Buffy the Hamburger
Slayer is doused in red wine and topped with garlic aioli and Swiss cheese!)
But the best part is the
entertainment! They have karaoke, drag shows, bingo nights, and DJ
nights. Last weekend we went for the cabaret show featuring several of
their drag queens. It was a riot – their costumes were great and they
picked people out of the crowd to go up on stage. You definitely have to
have an open mind if you go there because if you look at all uncomfortable,
they’ll pick you out of the crowd! It was mostly lip-syncing, but still a
fun show.
I had the Lemon Drop Marytini while waiting
for my food. For dinner, I ordered the Mac Daddy burger topped with
creamy macaroni American cheese, with a side of Mary’s tatas (tater
tots). The drinks were great (very strong) and I enjoyed my burger.
If you’re looking for a fun night out, this is the place to go.
Hamburger Mary’s is located at 110
