While on the east coast, we had to make a
stop at Da
Kine Diego’s Insane Burritos in Satellite Beach. I’ve been there half a dozen times in the
past, and anytime I’m nearby, I try to make a trip there.
Last time I went was back in 2010 after my
friend Shannon got married in Melbourne. This time we were on the east coast
for my cousin Fran’s wedding – so after
a few breweries and walk on Cocoa Beach, we had dinner before the drive
back to Tampa.
Da Kine’s has a really laid-back surfer
atmosphere. It’s across the road from the
beach on A1A in a little shack with a tiki-umbrella covered patio. All the walls are covered in bright colors,
graffiti, and stickers.
The line was out the door when we got
there (mostly a bunch of high school kids).
I had always been for lunch in the past – the dinner crowd was way
busier. We ordered our food and grabbed
a picnic bench while we waited for our names to be called.
I ordered a chicken “Barney Bowl” – with black
beans, jasmine rice, chopped green onions, bell peppers, salsa, chipotle sour
cream, and cheddar jack cheese. Their
ingredients are always so fresh!
Lance had one of the name sake “insane
burritos”. If you think a burrito at
Chipotle is large, wait until you try these.
It is such a ridiculous amount of food that it comes with instructions on
how to enjoy it. Lance somehow finished
the whole thing (and was in a food coma afterwards…)
We washed it all down with Jarritos lime
sodas. I’m not normally a soda drinker,
but these are delicious.
It’s too bad that I don’t make it to that
side of Florida more often, but if you’re ever in the area, go check it
out!
Da
Kine Diego’s Insane Burritos is located at 1360
Florida A1A, Satellite Beach, FL 32937 and is open 11am – 9pm Monday –
Saturday and 12pm – 8pm on Sunday.
The best. I've been getting food there for 20 years.
