Grimaldi's Coal Brick-Oven Pizzeria

Grimaldi’s Pizzeria opened at Westshore Plaza over a year ago, but we didn’t get the chance to try it out until this past Monday.  They have locations in several states, but their most famous one is under the Brooklyn Bridge.  They serve classic New York-style pizzas made in coal-fired brick ovens.

I honestly didn’t have high expectations with it being a chain pizza restaurant at the mall, but I was very impressed!  The décor is modern and inviting, with red & white checked tablecloths, brick walls, wood paneling, and funky bottle chandeliers.  Our waitress said the light fixtures were made from wine bottles recycled from their own restaurant.  Nice atmosphere for a date night.

We split a large white pizza with garlic and meatballs.  The crust was perfectly crispy and charred from the coal.  It was very simple, but delicious.  The pizza was served with extra parmesan, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes.

We were stuffed after 2 slices each, so we had half a pizza left to take home (which we enjoyed for dinner tonight). I’m sure we’ll be back again soon!

Grimaldi’s has several locations around the country.  The Tampa one is located at 253 Westshore Plaza B1B, Tampa, FL 33609 and is open 11am – 10pm Sunday through Thursday and 11am – 11pm Friday & Saturday.
