Brewers' Tasting Room & 3 Daughters - St. Pete, FL

We bought a CL Deal for Brewers’ Tasting Room in St. Pete (it looks like it’s still available if you want $20 of food & drinks for only $10).  I didn’t know much about it before, but they offer a variety of beers from well-known craft breweries like Cigar City, Terrapin, and New Belgium, along with one-of-a-kind beers brewed on location by their community of brewers.

It’s funny that a year or so ago when we starting making our rounds to all the local breweries, my flights always looked super light – the flight I got at Brewers’ Tasting Room was surprisingly all darker beers.  I guess I’m finally acquiring the taste for more than just fruity Belgian beer.  I liked the Laguintas Scare City Rye Cocoa and Breckenridge Vanilla Porter Nitro best.

They only had 2 brewed on site that day – Bad Badger, a British Pale Ale, and Jonny Boy, a Scottish Light.  Lance liked the Bad Badger since it was extra bitter.

We ordered some snacks while we were there – wings with spicy blue cheese and the Italian Flag Flatbread – with sundried tomato, basil, mozzarella, homemade pesto, olive oil & balsamic.  The sauce on the wings was very good – although it was a pretty small portion so we devoured them quickly.  It wasn’t a huge food menu, so it’s better to go there and snack then have dinner.

They are actually having their 2 year anniversary party tonight (March 6th, 2015) 5pm to midnight, so if you’re free, they’ll have live music and a new menu, along with commemorative pint glasses!

While in St. Pete, we headed back to 3 Daughters since we felt like playing some games. We played ping-pong, foosball, and giant Jenga while enjoying their beers – unfortunately their putt-putt golf course is closed for renovations…hoping they fix it soon since that’s one of my favorite things to do there.

St. Pete Brewery Hopping

Tuesday after visiting Locale Market, we did a repeat of our St. Pete brewery hop from a few months ago.

Lance and I have been on a mission to try all the local craft breweries (which is going to take awhile…we’ve only made it to 12 out of 104 in Florida!) When we were at Orlando Brewing a few weeks ago, we picked up a newspaper called Southern Brew News.  It had a map outlining all the breweries in the Southeast (you can see a digital version here on pages 9-10).  We’ve laminated it & started putting pins in the ones we’ve visited in Florida (and we actually made it to 2 during our Atlanta trip in October).

This time we started off at 3 Daughters (which we had visited for the first time back in October).  It was all decorated for Christmas still with beer-mug lights on the tree and a mini holiday village.

They have great beer, but what I really love are all the games.  It was raining, so we couldn’t use the mini-golf course, but we ordered flights and played Cards Against Humanity.

Next we headed to Green Bench.  It was still drizzly, so we couldn’t enjoy their nice outdoor green space, but it’s really nice inside too.  Laura didn’t have anything to eat earlier at Locale Market, so we stopped across the street at Bodega for some Cuban food.  They actually added an indoor juice bar next door since last time we went.

After, we walked down to St. Pete Brewing (which is Lance’s favorite).  We ordered some more flights and played a few games of giant connect-4.  I was excited to try the Drop Dead “Gourd”eous pumpkin beer since last time we went they weren't serving it yet – it had nice flavor and wasn’t overly sweet like some pumpkin beers can be.

Unfortunately, St. Pete Brewing wasn’t serving alcoholic cupcakes like last time we went.  We were craving something sweet, we stopped at Everything Dolce Dessert Bar on our walk back.  We actually weren’t too impressed.  Our croissant was heated up in the microwave and wasn’t quite the right texture – it seemed like it had been sitting there for awhile.  There was no one else there, and the sweets selection for an all-dessert restaurant was a bit picked over.  The website describes it as a "tropical romantic setting with live music six nights a week" - in reality it was actually really quiet and dark.  But we satisfied our sugar cravings so we left happy.

We’re looking forward to adding more pins to our brewery map soon! (Since we’d already been to all 3 of these breweries, we didn’t add any more this trip…)

3 Daughters Brewing – St. Petersburg, FL

After our morning at Brew D Licious and the Chihuly Collection, we decided to check out another St. Pete craft brewery.  We bar-hopped between St. Pete Brewing, Green Bench, and Cycle Brewing a few weeks ago, but we were anxious to try out more of St. Pete’s local beers.  I’ve heard great reviews about 3 Daughters Brewing, which has been open about 10 months now.

They are located just west of I-275 in the warehouse/arts district of St. Petersburg.  The facility is pretty spacious, and they just recently started canning and distributing last week.

The main bar area is designed in the same style as most new bars and restaurants – rustic industrial with filament bulbs in metal pendants.  What really makes their location a fun hangout are all the games!  I’ve seen oversized Jenga and Connect 4 at other bars, but they go beyond that with ping-pong tables, foosball, and even a mini-golf course!

The beers we sampled were fantastic.  I started off with their Kahwa Coffee Blonde and Lance had the Bimini Twist IPA.  I’ve never had a light coffee beer before – they tend to be porters.  I loved the flavor – totally different from any beer I’ve ever had.  And Lance is a big fan of IPA’s, so of course he liked his.

We tried a little bit of almost everything next in flights – served in little wooden crates with chalk labels on the sides.  My favorite was the Pun’kin Ale – which unlike most pumpkin beers, wasn’t overly sweet.

We were there in the afternoon, so it wasn’t too crowded, but they said they get packed on weekend nights.  We spent a long time playing ping-pong – we actually did pretty well, despite being slightly tipsy.  Then I went on to beat Lance in foosball and putt-putt (he is the athlete between the two of us, so it was nice to beat him in something…)

It would be such a fun place to get together with friends.  I know we’ll be back for sure.

3 Daughters Brewing is located at 222 22nd St S, St Petersburg, FL 33712 and is open 2pm – 9pm Monday and Tuesday, 2pm – 10pm Wednesday and Thursday, 2pm – 12am Friday, 12pm – 12am Saturday, and 1pm – 9pm on Sunday.
