Mad Dogs & Englishmen – Tampa, FL

Since my parents gave us so many CL Deals for Christmas, we’ve been having lots of date nights on them!  The most recent one was at Mad Dogs & Englishmen, which gave us $50 to spend on food & drinks!  (That one is sold out now, but Mad Dogs seems to have CL Deals pretty regularly, so keep an eye on the website…)

Mad Dogs has been around since 1991 and specializes in British pub food (like fish & chips), along with some Asian-inspired dishes (like Tempura Shrimp with Thai Chili Sauce).  Since it was a nice night, we sat out on the patio.

We started off with beers and the Asian Dumplings appetizer.  They are stuffed with shrimp, mushrooms, cabbage, scallions, ginger, and garlic and served with a sesame soy sauce for dipping.  We devoured them quickly – the flavor was great, but I wish there were a few more on the plate.

We split the Espresso Rubbed New York Strip Steak as an entrée.  It was served with roasted fingerling potatoes in a Guinness demi-glace and a baby arugula salad, topped with apples, candied pecans, and Stilton cheese with an apple cider vinaigrette.  It was plenty of food for the both of us to enjoy (there was a split plate charge, but I think they gave us each more of the side salad and potatoes to make up for it).

Since we split our entrée, we didn’t feel too guilty to order dessert – beer battered brownie served à la mode.  It was pretty decadent.

Mad Dogs & Englishmen is located at 4115 South MacDill Avenue, Tampa, FL 33611 and is open 11am – 10pm Monday – Thursday, 11am – 11pm Friday & Saturday, and 10am – 10pm on Sunday.
